In 2021, the ongoing pandemic provided ample opportunities for movie-watching and I got to watch a lot of cool stuff this year. I don’t stand behind this list very strongly on account of the number of great films I still haven’t watched. Nevertheless, here are the films I enjoyed the most this year:

  1. The French Dispatch
  2. The Green Knight
  3. Bo Burnham: Inside
  4. Pig
  5. The Power of the Dog
  6. Street Gang: How We Got to Sesame Street
  7. Barb & Star Go to Vista Del Mar
  8. The Last Duel
  9. Petite Maman
  10. The Sparks Brothers

Honorable Mentions:

  • Get Back (it’s only not on the list because it‘s technically a miniseries and not a “movie”)
  • Titane
  • Drive My Car
  • Last Night in Soho

Have Not Yet Seen:

These are movies that didn’t make the cut because I didn’t get around to seeing them:

  • Licorice Pizza
  • The Tragedy of Macbeth
  • The Harder They Fall
  • C’mon C’mon
  • West Side Story
  • Benedetta
  • Luca
  • Encanto
  • The Lost Daughter
  • The Mitchells vs. the Machines
  • The Card Counter
  • Tick, Tick… Boom!
  • Boiling Point
